Overview
Use the Add Course wizard to create a new course record in NLP. The wizard walks you through four stages: Course Details, Course Content, Course Schedule, and Course Price & Deployment.
Before you begin
Have the course’s basic information ready (Course Group, Course Title, and any schedule/pricing details you may need).
Steps
1) Course Details
Go to Courses.
Click Add Course.
In Course Details, complete the following fields:
Does the course belong to an existing course group? Select Yes or No.
Course Group (required): Enter a course group for your course.
Course Title (required): Enter the unique title of your course.
Course Code (optional): Enter an alphanumeric identifier used for cataloging/enrollment tracking.
Section Code (optional): Enter an identifier for a specific section/offer of the course.
Reporting Group (optional): Enter a label used for analytics/reporting.
Click Next.
2) Course Content
In Course Content, enter or select the following (as applicable):
Course Description (required): Detailed description of covered topics/skills.
Banner Image (required): Upload the course banner image. The image size needs to be under 2MB.
Content Provider (required): Select the institution/organization hosting the content
If needed, click + Or Create New Content Provider
Instructor(s) (required): Select one or more instructors
If needed, click + Or Create New Instructor
Click Next to continue to Course Schedule.
3) Course Schedule
In Course Schedule, complete the following:
Will this course be hosted on an LMS? (required)
LMS System (required if course will be hosted on an LMS).
Academic Term (optional): Select the academic term
If needed, click + Or Create New Academic Term
Modality (required).
Is this a self-paced course? (required).
Course Time Zone (required).
Course Start Date and Course End Date (required if course is not set to self-paced).
Would you like to grant indefinite access to the LMS course? (required if course will be hosted on an LMS).
LMS Access Start Date and LMS Access End Date (required if course will be hosted on an LMS).
Enrollment Start Date / Enrollment End Date.
Weekly Schedule (required if course is set to in-person modality).
Location (required if course is set to in-person modality).
If needed, click + Or Create New Location
Can students waitlist for this course? (required).
Minimum Number of Seats / Maximum Number of Seats. If max is left blank, the course will allow for unlimited enrollments.
Click Next to continue to Course Price & Deployment.
4) Course Price & Deployment
In Course Price & Deployment, complete the fields below as applicable:
LMS Course ID (required if course will be hosted on an LMS). Must be unique from other courses.
Child Discover Instance(s) (if applicable). If you do not select a child instance, only the parent course will be created. To distribute the course into a child instance, you can come back to the parent course, add your child instance and save. This will create a child course in draft status.
Price (required) or enter 0 to make the course free.
Can students put a deposit in order to enroll in the course?
If set to yes, you will be required to enter the deposit amount.
Memberships, if applicable.
Course Credit (optional)
Should the course be visible to public learners? Setting to yes will make the course available in the course catalog and available for enrollment (based on enrollment period dates). Setting to no will keep the course hidden from learners.
Click Preview To Publish to review and publish when ready.
Result
Once published, your course becomes available according to your selected deployment settings and appears in the Courses list. Child courses will be created in "Draft" mode. Once you create your parent course and the associated child courses, you will need to go into the child courses and publish those.
Troubleshooting
Can’t proceed to the next step: Check for required fields (marked with *), especially Course Group, Course Title, Course Description, Banner Image, Content Provider, Instructor(s), LMS System, Academic Term, and Price.
