Overview
Use Create Instance to set up a new child instance in NLP. During setup, you’ll enter basic instance details, choose instance behavior (Public vs Invite Only), and select platform features such as cart, wallets, certificates, and social tools. You can also configure branding and homepage content.
What you can do when creating an instance
Admins can configure:
Instance details (name, timezone, URLs, microsite options)
Instance type (Public vs Invite Only)
Platform feature toggles:
Shopping cart
Wallets
Social Tool
Dynamic certificates
Branding (logos, icons, browser tab icon, colors)
Homepage content (hero text, section titles, images, and text blocks)
Membership and Waiver settings
Create an instance
Step 1: Enter instance details
From Instances, click Create Instance.
In Instance Details, complete the following fields:
Client Name: Enter the instance name.
Timezone: Select the timezone for the instance.
Custom URL (optional): Enter a vanity URL if your organization requires it.
Microsite Landing Page URL (optional): Add a landing page URL for non-logged-in learners to replace the out of the box home page. This should only be used if you are planning on building out an integration between NLP and your marketing site.
Choose your homepage/microsite option:
Enable Custom Microsite, or
Enable Noodle Learning Platform Home Page
Microsite Courses Page URL (optional): Add an external URL to replace the out of the box course page. This should only be used if you are planning on building out an integration between NLP and your marketing site.
Step 2: Choose instance type
Under Instance Type, select:
Public: Anyone can join your instance and enroll in courses.
Invite Only: Instance admins have to invite members.
Note: This decision is shown as cannot be changed later in the setup flow.
Step 3: Enable or disable platform features
Under Shopping Cart, choose one:
Enable Cart: Allows users to bulk checkout multiple items/courses.
Disable Cart: Uses single checkout for each course/item.
Note: This decision is shown as cannot be changed later in the setup flow.
Under Wallets, choose one:
Enable Wallet: Learners can use wallet balances to pay for eligible courses.
Disable Wallet: Wallet balances are not available (standard payment methods only).
Note: This decision is shown as cannot be changed later in the setup flow.
Under Social Tool, choose one:
Enable Social Tool: Allows learners to connect/collaborate with social features.
Disable Social Tool: Removes the social layer from the experience.
Under Certificates, choose one:
Enable Certificate: Learners automatically receive a platform-generated certificate upon completion.
Disable Certificate: Disables dynamic certificate generation.
Step 4: Add branding
In Branding, upload your instance visuals and set colors. (The page includes guidance callouts for recommended formats and dimensions.)
Upload Instance Logo (full/horizontal logo).
Upload Instance Icon (square icon for small sizes).
Upload Browser Tab Icon (favicon-style icon).
Set your colors:
Primary Color (hex format)
Secondary Color (hex format)
Step 5: Configure homepage content
In Homepage Content, enter the text and images that will appear on your instance homepage.
Add a Hero Title and Hero Paragraph.
Upload a Hero Image (if applicable).
Configure section content such as:
Course Section Title
Course Section Paragraph
First Block Title
First Block Paragraph
First Block Paragraph Image
Continue completing any remaining homepage fields shown on your instance configuration page.
Step 6: Configure membership and waiver settings
Under Membership Settings, choose:
Enable Memberships: Require active memberships for enrollment in select courses, or
Disable Memberships: Learners do not need a membership to purchase courses
Under Waiver Settings, choose:
Enable Waivers: Require learners to complete waivers before enrolling, or
Disable Waivers: Learners never need a waiver to enroll
Click Save to submit your instance configuration.
Troubleshooting
Save is disabled: Confirm all required fields are completed (look for required indicators) and that you’ve selected required configuration options.
Not sure which instance type to choose?
Choose Public when learners should be able to join and enroll without admin invitation.
Choose Invite Only when access should be admin-controlled.
