New Features
A clearer start to every session
Students now see the Dialogue's name and instructions before a session begins, so they know what to expect before starting.
A more deliberate way to end a session
Ending a session now asks students to confirm before submitting, then shows a summary screen with options to try again, finish, or download the transcript. After submitting, students can quickly rate how the session went (Went well / Needs work) and optionally share what they'd do differently next time.
New roles for managing Dialogues across your Organization
Teams can now assign three levels of access:
Dialogue User (create and manage their own dialogues),
Dialogue Admin (manage all dialogues in the organization), and;
Organization Admin (everything above, plus manage organization members).
Admins belonging to multiple organizations can now switch between them directly from the dashboard.
What's Improved
- Share links are now shorter and easier to copy and paste
- Various reliability and bug fixes across the session experience
August 3, 2026
This release adds a new way for students to submit work before a conversation, automatic rubric-based scoring for oral assessments, several accessibility improvements, and a round of reliability fixes.
New Features
Admins and Faculty can now customize Wind-Down phase prompts and timing per Dialogue
A new "Session Wind-Down" section in Dialogue settings surfaces all three wind-down phase prompts includingSession Time Warning, Session Wrap Up, and Session Ending as editable fields. Trigger timing thresholds (briefing at 1:30, goodbye at 0:45, closing turn count) are also configurable per Dialogue, with a reset-to-default option per field. Internal Note: For current Dialogues with wind-down instructions in the prompt, you can remove those sections and refer to the new Wind-down instruction fields.
Assignment Submission: students can now upload work before a conversation begins
Dialogues can now include a step where students upload a document — like a paper or assignment — before starting their conversation with an AI character.
- Instructors can add this step type when building a Dialogue, with a custom prompt describing what the student should submit.
- Before starting, students see a clear upload prompt and can drag-and-drop or browse to upload a PDF or Word document.
- Once uploaded, the AI character can reference specific details from the student's document throughout the conversation.
- If a submission is required, students can't skip ahead without uploading it first.
- Each student's upload is private to their own session — it's never shared with or visible to other students.
Automatic scoring against a rubric
After a student finishes an oral assessment, their conversation can now be automatically scored against a rubric set by the instructor — no manual transcript review required. Scores are saved and tied to the student's session, laying the groundwork for class-level reporting instructors will be able to view soon.
Testing a Dialogue before it goes live
Instructors and admins can now preview how a Dialogue's opening conversation sounds and feels directly from the editor — without needing to set it up in Canvas or another course first. This makes it much faster to fine-tune a character's tone and behavior before students ever see it.
Accessibility Improvements
- The "Clear Chat" button now meets color contrast standards, making it easier to read for people with low vision or color blindness.
- Screen readers (NVDA) now read a character's full response in one pass, instead of looping and re-reading partial text.
Fixes & Improvements
- Fixed an issue where students could upload an assignment again after already finishing their conversation.
- Fixed an issue where an AI character would sometimes ask a student to repeat information they'd already shared earlier in a related activity.
- The muted-microphone icon now turns red when active, making it easier to tell at a glance that your mic is off.
- Fixed an issue where automatically generated conversation highlights could include things a student never actually said during quiet or low-audio moments.
- Fixed an issue where a student's transcript could show entries from earlier attempts mixed in with their most recent one.
- Fixed a display issue where the bottom of a Dialogue could get cut off and unscrollable in some course window sizes.
- Fixed an issue where creating a new character could show an error instead of opening the character setup page.
- Fixed an issue where an invalid time limit entry wasn't clearly flagged, which could leave instructors unsure why their change wasn't saved.
- Fixed a display issue where a Dialogue's conversation steps didn't always appear in the same order shown in the builder.
- Improved compatibility for institutions with stricter network security policies.
